Carole Chisholm Garvey
Carole Chisholm Garvey, states that her goal as an artist is to “interpret the landscape for Everyman.” Working in pastel, a medium known for its flexibility and immediacy, she utilizes a classic sense of composition and content, and a style that “suggests rather than defines” to create serene visions of her native Massachusetts.
Following her education at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design (BFA), Carole taught studio art at Wayland High School, art history at the Nashoba School in Concord, MA and served as a docent at the deCordova Museum in Lincoln, MA. Garvey has given frequent workshops for the Cape Cod Museum of Art, the Copley Society of Art, the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod, and the Cahoon Museum of American Art.
In addition to Boston’s Copley Society of Art, where she is designated a Copley Artist, she is affiliated with the Pastel Society of America, where she has a PSA designation; the Concord Art Association, where she has a Distinguished Artist designation; the Duxbury Art Association; and is a Signature member of the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod.
Carole’s work has often been awarded first prize or best of show in many juried shows including those at the Copley Society of Art, Cape Cod Art Association, Concord Art Association, and the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod. She has had one-person shows at Cummaquid Fine Art, Ltd., and invitational, as well as two person, shows at the Copley Society. In 2006 she was given a solo exhibit, “Witness to the Land,” at the Cahoon Museum of American Art.
In 2011 Carole was a prize winner in the Pastel Society of America annual juried exhibition, and in 2012 won the Society’s President’s Award in New York. In 2014 her pastel Sundown was selected for the 24th Juried Exhibition of the International Association of Pastel Societies and received the judges’ Gold award.
Her paintings have been published in The Best of Pastel, an international collection of contemporary paintings, and in Landscape Inspirations by Stephen Knapp, Rockport Publishing. Her paintings were also published in the October 2000 edition of Pastel Artist International: “Master Pastel Artists of the World – United States Showcase.”
