Lillia Frantin

Lillia Frantin

Lillia Frantin received her Master’s Degree from Pratt Institute, New York in 1968 and was a Professor of Painting and Modern Art History for over twenty years. For nearly fifty years, she has painted and exhibited professionally in New York, California, Provence and the south of France, in New Mexico and Cape Cod. Her credits include one person museum shows and numerous gallery exhibitions in London, Barcelona, Boston and Cape Cod, on Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard as well as Alexandria VA, Atlanta, Scottsdale, Los Angeles, Palm Desert, Santa Fe, New York City and Palm Beach. Her work has received countless awards and is in many private and public collections across the United States and Europe.

Described as “Romantic Expressionism”, her paintings are uniquely her own and feel alive with freshness, luminosity, and energy. From simple themes of nature and the everyday- fruits and flowers, patterned cloth, air, water, clouds- she creates art that almost vibrates with physicality and presence…what the philosopher Walter Benjamin calls ‘the aura of art’. Lillia is pleased to join the Chapman Gallery.
