EAST MEETS WEST

For this exhibition “East Meets West” Patrick will explore the contrasts and similarities of the abstracted coastal landscape. His intention is to identify a location or narrative and deconstruct the details and composition, leaving fragments of the original intent as a basis for the viewer to experience the perspective.

Patrick is a non-traditional contemporary abstract landscape painter. Using porous paper underlay materials that may include sheet music, pages from books or catalogs to inform the storyline, subsequent layers will obscure the foreign materials, leaving a textured residue under the oil painted surface treatment.

Intentional omission of details allows for a unique interpretation of the completed paintings. Whether the composition includes structures or a minimalist construct, the results are a harmonious marriage of the real and the imagined. The palette may change dramatically, but the intention remains to invite the viewer into a reimagined setting, to breathe deeply the tonal elements of a new environment.

This exhibition will showcase mostly new works specifically created within the theme. The subjects may be based on locations from opposite coasts, but the unifying intention is a warm embrace of the elements and a visceral  experience.
